Welcome to Kona Jeep Rental! We’re delighted to assist you in navigating your way from Kona International Airport (KOA) to the convenient vehicle rental lots, where your adventure on the Big Island begins.

A Guide to Navigating Kona International Airport and Reaching Your Rental Jeep

Kona is an inviting and easy-to-navigate airport, especially if you know where to go to pick up your rental. Below, we’ll walk you through the steps from exiting your plane to getting on the road in your Kona Jeep Rental.

Understanding the Terminal Layout

Kona International Airport consists of two primary terminals: Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Each terminal serves different gates, but regardless of where you land, the process to get to the car rental shuttles is straightforward.

  • Terminal 1: This terminal services gates 1 through 6. It typically handles domestic flights, especially those from the mainland U.S. Upon exiting Terminal 1, you’ll find yourself near the main walkway that connects you to the shuttle stops.
  • Terminal 2: Serving gates 7 through 11, Terminal 2 usually handles international flights and inter-island travel. Similar to Terminal 1, once you exit, you’re just a short walk away from the shuttle stops that will take you to the car rental lots.

Both terminals are equipped with multiple amenities, including restrooms, food stalls, and retail shops, making it easy to grab any last-minute essentials before heading to your rental vehicle.

Getting to the Shuttle Stops

After you’ve collected your luggage, the next step is to find the shuttle stops that will take you to the car rental lots. This is a crucial step of your journey; knowing where to go can save you time and make the process smoother.

  • Exiting the Terminals: Whether you’re coming from Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, the first shuttle stop you’ll encounter is conveniently located to your left as you exit the terminal building. This is the first of three stops where you can catch the shuttle to the car rental lots.
  • Shuttle Stop Locations:
    • First Stop (Green): This is the most accessible stop and typically the first one you’ll see. It’s closest to Terminal 1 but serves both terminals.
    • Second Stop (Yellow): Located slightly further down, this stop serves as a secondary option if the first stop is crowded.
    • Third Stop (Red): The final stop is closer to Terminal 2. Note that shuttles are often full by this third stop, so it’s advisable to board at the first or second stop when possible.

The Shuttle Ride

Once on the shuttle, sit back and enjoy the short ride to the car rental lots. The journey is approximately five minutes, during which you’ll have a chance to relax and get a brief glimpse of the beautiful Hawaiian landscape. The shuttle has air conditioning, ensuring a comfortable ride no matter the time of year.

Arriving at the Rental Lots

Upon arrival at the car rental lots, you’ll find that everything is designed with convenience in mind. Clear signage and helpful staff are available to direct you to your vehicle.

  • Check-In Process: Once you arrive at the rental desk, the check-in process is swift and efficient. The staff will verify your reservation, assist you with any additional requests, and provide you with the keys to your Jeep.
  • Vehicle Inspection: A brief vehicle inspection should be conducted to ensure everything is in order before driving off. This helps avoid any misunderstandings later.

Returning Your Vehicle

Returning your Jeep is just as easy as picking it up when your trip is over. Drive back to the rental lot to return your Jeep. From there, the shuttle service will take you back to the airport terminals so you can continue your journey.
